Rehoboth Selectmen Call August 7 Special Town Meeting to Present Post-Override Budget

REHOBOTH — July 18, 2014 — Rehoboth selectmen voted unanimously to call a special town meeting for August 7 at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School to present a post-override budget to voters. The board, facing a September 15 state tax-rate certification deadline, scheduled three budget work sessions for the week of July 21 and agreed to seat Finance Committee members as full advisors alongside selectmen in those sessions. The chair reported that under his urging the regional school committee will hold a special meeting July 29 to consider reducing Rehoboth's assessment — estimated at roughly $1.65 million — including possible elimination of full-day kindergarten for approximately 130 students at a cost of about $240,000 plus transportation, though the chair said he holds "very little hope for any concessions" from Dighton committee members. A scheduling conflict surfaced when an attendee noted the Congregational Church's annual clambake is already set for August 7; the board deferred a possible date change to the August 8 to its July 21 regular meeting.
