Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee Approves MSBA Signature Authority, Bids Farewell to Malone

REHOBOTH — June 10, 2014 — Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee marks final meeting with Interim Superintendent Malone, defers key votes to June 24. The committee voted to authorize the School Committee chair to sign three Massachusetts School Building Authority project funding agreements by a June 15 deadline, reversing an earlier tied vote that would have given the authority to the superintendent. High school Principal Jackie Striano and Guidance Director Bridget Martin both submitted resignations, adding to an open-position list the administration is working to fill before Superintendent-elect Dr. Anthony Azar officially takes over July 1. Assistant Principal John Harrison and teacher John Pachinko presented a NEASC accreditation self-study rating the high school as acceptable in most categories but limited in curriculum and community resources, with a visiting team arriving in November. Votes on all four district school handbooks were deferred to June 24 pending policy reconciliation, and the committee approved a $15.33 recycling donation to Beckwith Middle School and policy section L on relations with non-public schools.
