Dighton-Rehoboth Board Extends Superintendent's Contract to 2031

REHOBOTH — Dighton-Rehoboth extends Superintendent Rooney's contract through June 2031. The School Committee, chaired by Andrade, disclosed the extension at its August 25 meeting, a decision reached in a prior executive session. Rooney told the committee, "I want to work here for as long as you guys will have me, and as long as my wife allows me to continue to work." The district is opening three new career and technical programs, criminal justice, public safety and medical assisting, alongside culinary, when classes resume September 2, and staffing coordinator Kelleher reported 27 new hires with only two positions still open.
The committee also confirmed a tentative special town meeting in April 2027 and special election in May 2027 to decide the Dighton Elementary School building project, and unanimously approved a Dighton-Rehoboth Gridiron Club fundraising request.
